Dr. Murty Kambhampati (he/him) is a Professor of Biology in the Department of Natural Sciences at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) with about thirty years of successful experience in teaching, research, mentoring, scholarship, and community and university service. Kambhampati actively engages collaboratively and secured ~$11M over his tenure as a PI in state and federal funded grants to enhance STEM curricula, support students and faculty travel, provide academic and research stipends for undergraduate STEM majors, and enhance departmental infrastructure for teaching, learning, and research. He published several articles/research abstracts in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Additionally, Kambhampati developed and implemented several new STEM courses and enhanced the quality of Biology and Mathematics curricula through funded grants. During his tenure, he has received several academic and research mentoring awards including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring from President Barack Obama in 2015. His research interests are in environmental science, toxicology, limnology, and biological sciences. He contributes to the development of new undergraduate degree programs and certification programs with his peers in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and other academic areas at SUNO. Kambhampati attends and presents at the local, regional and national conferences along with his mentees. He is a strong believer in the power of positive thinking in the workplace with a motto of making a difference in one student at a time and he is quite successful in implementing this effectively in his area of specialty over the past three decades.
